The Island Hopper Songwriter Fest features nationally acclaimed singer-songwriters brought to The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel by BMI & iHeart Radio. The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is proud to feature singer songwriters Frank Myers, Will Bowen, and Philip White as part of this great local festival.
Will Bowen is a Grammy nominated singer/songwriter signed to Little Extra Music. Bowen signed his first publishing deal while still a senior in high school, where he’d already recorded two independent albums. As an artist, he opened for such legends as Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Train. With numerous cuts as a songwriter, Bowen reached platinum status internationally with a song on Latin pop star Soraya Arnelas’ debut album (6x platinum). He also had a song on the American Grammy Nominated album from Tejano artist Rebecca Valadez. After the release of his third record, Love is War, he moved to Nashville in 2008 to focus on his songwriting. Bowen has recently had cuts by Casey James, Due West and others.
Frank J. Myers is originally from Dayton, Ohio, but moved to Nashville in 1981 to pursue a career in music. He got his start in Nashville as band leader, road manager and lead guitarist for Eddy Raven in 1981 and worked with Eddy for 9 years. It was with Eddy that Frank started writing, playing and co-producing sessions. They had 2 number ones, 5 number twos and 3 top tens with songs such as I Got Mexico, Bayou Boys, You Should’ve Been Gone By Now, Sometimes A Lady and many others. It was in 1982 though, that Frank had his first single (a song he wrote by himself) with You And I for Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle which stayed number one for four weeks Country, number two for six weeks AC and number 6 for four weeks Pop. It was during his time with Eddy Raven that Frank met Gary Baker. They had their first number one together in 1993 with Once Upon A Lifetime by Alabama. Gary and Frank recorded one album for MCG/Curb Records as Baker & Myers and were 3 time nominees for Duo Of The Year at the ACM’s and CMA’s. Their greatest accomplishment as writers together came when John Michael Montgomery recorded I Swear which was number one for 4 weeks on the Country charts.
Phillip is notable for co-writing such songs as “I’m a Survivor,” the omni-present theme song of the TV sit com Reba, and “I’m Movin’ On,” the Rascal Flatts smash that was named Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music in 2002. Phillip’s songs have also been recorded by such stars as George Strait, Kenny Rogers, Jo Dee Messina and Blake Shelton. Most recently, Phillip landed two songs on Scotty McCreery’s platinum album “Clear As Day” including the hit single “The Trouble With Girls”. Phillip also had two of his songs featured on the soundtrack for the film Act of Valor. In addition, Darius Rucker recently recorded the song “Lost In You” that he penned with Phillip.
