Permanence: Durability, Solidity, Eternalness
Commodity: Functionality, Value
Delight: Pleasure, Glee, Enchantment
The
Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, located in the historic
federal building in downtown Fort Myers, not only
embodies art in the community, but architectural
triumph. The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center helped
restore this 1933 community treasure, which has
neoclassic style columns and walls made of Florida key
limestone embedded with coral formations.
In 400 B.C., the Roman philosopher Vitruvius, said the
essence of true architecture is permanence, commodity,
and delight. Much like "true architecture," true art
possesses these qualities and signifies an extraordinary
place in our lives that affects us in profound ways.
The
Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is proud to support this
cause and strives to bring nationally acclaimed artists
and performers to Southwest Florida for entertainment
and educational outreach programs. Our outreach programs
benefit local children and the disadvantaged who would
not otherwise have the opportunity or access to
experience world-class cultural enrichment at such an
intimate level. The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center
hosts concerts, art festivals, charity benefits, and
gala events to support the arts and local community. By
providing a venue for local emerging artists, the Art
Center serves as a platform for budding artists to
showcase their work.
