12 artists with enormous talent were invited to take the challenge to create an art piece of titan proportions.

Even though the exhibition is named after the Greek Gods, the artists were given free rein to create on the giant 8ft x 9ft canvases.

For our Season of Giants, we have created a Giant exhibition, the Age of Titans.

The idea started some years ago when Sbdac curator, Cesar Aguilera, went to the Ringling museum in Sarasota to see the colossal artworks of Peter Paul Rubens. This inspired the curator to create an exhibition of giant artworks with local artists. He selected the Titans of Greek mythology as a starting point. The Titans were the deities in Greek mythology that preceded the Olympians. They were the children of the primordial deities Uranus (heaven) and Gaea (earth). 6 male and 6 female gods/goddesses; Cronus, Oceanus, Coeus, Hyperion, Crius, Iapetus, Thea, Phoebe, Mnemosyne, Themis, Rhea, and Tethys. Then each artist selected one Titan to use as inspiration for their art.

Artists from very diverse mediums accepted the call; architects, designers, tattoo artists, and more, working in diverse mediums such as oils, spray paint, acrylic, and found objects, to create unique titanic works of art. The artists participating in this exhibit are Mariapia Malerba, Danielle Branchaud, Dharma Lefevre, Savanna Leslie, Samantha Taylor, Dawn Webb, Reynier Llanes, Brian Weaver, Mully, Cesar Aguilera, Israel Alpizar, and Jc Franchevich

This exhibition has been a few years in the making and is sure to be one of the highlights of the Sbdac season of giants.

Follow each artist on their social media to see their art, and then be amazed when you see the giant works of art during the month of July.
