About Enigma
Enigma comes from the Greek, meaning “to speak in riddles.”
This show seeks to challenge the viewer to find the meaning – their meaning – in each piece. Each figure represents some aspect of the human condition – anger, happiness, fear, confidence, sensuality – or a combination of any of these emotions.
I find that I express my deepest thoughts, my greatest joys, my darkest fears through figurative work. The human face, the gesture of the body speaks to us in life and in art. There is a story in each piece, a different one for all of us.
I lost my Father late last year while I was creating most of the work you see in this exhibition. That loss and the celebration of his life is a part of every work represented here. Art has always helped me address the raw emotion that we all feel as we move through…just being.
Enigma is my way of putting it out there, letting everyone decode the meaning for themselves.
Bio
Dan Venditti has always been fascinated with the human form. That, coupled with a great interest in human nature, has formed his artistic style to reveal much about himself, the subject, and the observer. His Italian heritage, coupled with various European masters, both past and contemporary, has influenced his work in many aspects.
Dan received his Bachelor Degree in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in 1987. He later attended the New York Academy of Art and received his Masters in Painting and Sculpture in 1994. He also apprenticed with the Russian artists Komar and Melamid for most of the 90’s, working on print editions of DEATH Magazine and their America’s Most Wanted series of paintings. He spent 20 years in New York City, showing his work in various galleries in the city as well as international galleries and group shows.
Currently, Dan is living in Southwest Florida, where his work is evolving, combining his time in New York with the aesthetics of his new surroundings. He is involved in many local non-profit and charitable organizations in the area. He also enjoys writing and poetry, basing some of his visual works on pieces he has written.
Artist Statement
My work tends to vary depending on which media I’m working in. My paintings are figurative in nature and are very introspective and autobiographical, whereas my sculptures are more abstract and immediate. My printmaking tends to fall somewhere in between the two, being more graphic with subjects ranging from the figure to portraiture. My work is almost always personal, reflecting that which moves me emotionally, how it looks is determined by the medium.
