Fort Myers Film Festival Opening Night

The Black Tie Red Carpet Opening Night Gala kicks off at 5:30pm. VIP and general admission guests can enjoy the red carpet, the fully stocked open bar, and the night’s film, A Man and His Trumpet: The Leroy Jones Story. However, VIP guests will receive complimentary signature cocktails from List Distillery, hors d’oeuvres, plus access to the Red Carpet After Party. After Party guests have the opportunity to witness a jazz band performance with Leroy Jones, and have a chance to meet the film’s director. VIP tickets are just $150, and general admission is $25.

The Opening Night Film

The opening night celebration features a jazz documentary, A Man and His Trumpet: The Leroy Jones Story. Directed by Cameron Washington, the film chronicles the life and career of jazz trumpeter, Leroy Jones. Viewers will learn about Jones’ come up in New Orleans’ 7th Ward and French Quarter, and see life through the musician’s eyes in aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The film was completed in May 2018, and has been screened at the San Francisco Black Film Festival and the Martha’s Vineyard Film and Music Festival.

Film Selections at SBDAC

In addition to the opening night film, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center will be hosting several films from Thursday through Sunday. The selections showcase documentaries, shorts, and full length features from around the world. Some stand out selections are Marcos Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a documentary that examines the US immigration system, Surviving Lunch, a feature film about one’s girl quest to stop a school bully, and Hairy, a short tongue-in-cheek celebration of female body hair.
