About Hatchett Art

David Hatchett hails from a remarkable lineage of artists. His father, Duayne Hatchett, transitioned from being a jet pilot to an acclaimed artist, creating an extensive collection of meticulously crafted sculptures, paintings, and prints. Duayne was a pioneer of Mid-Century Modern conceptual minimalism, a movement exemplified by the “Sculpture of the Sixties” show at MOMA. His legacy set a high bar.

However, David Hatchett forged his own path. Diverging from his father’s style, David’s early works, which may appear haphazard and random, reveal a surprising depth of beauty and vision. His latest paintings build on his childhood art, showcasing a novel approach to using paint. He constructed an entire world through his sculptures, paintings, songs, and novels, each piece bursting with originality and extraordinary creativity.

David’s art is infused with his wicked sense of humor, enthusiasm for life, and deep spirituality. He had a unique vision for creating art in various forms. Notably, he was the youngest artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, NY, and his work has been exhibited and collected internationally.

David earned an MFA from Rutgers University and lived in SoHo, Manhattan, for over 45 years, where he was active and successful in the Loft Tenants Artists rights case. Known for his fun-loving nature, David had a wide circle of close friends, admirers, and collectors. He left behind a tangible legacy that reflects his relentless creativity.
