“Her Story”—an invitation to consider, interpret and acknowledge women’s experiences through the lens of Art.  

This is an open call, we invite anybody to create artworks that are at once celebratory and thought-provoking about the history and empowerment of women.  We encourage artworks, performances, and installations that very decidedly address topics of inequality and stereotypes, and focus on Woman’s internal strength and power.  Artworks that reflect these women’s strong bonds to their heritage and to their experiences. 

In all the individual stories within Her Story, with their unique narratives and viewpoints, a broader story of womanhood surfaces, giving us a distinct conversational point of departure for the ongoing discussion about what it is to be a Woman, with all the struggles and joys therein.

To submit artwork for consideration, please follow these guidelines:

*Artists may submit up to FOUR pieces for consideration.

*All media is accepted, including sculpture, video, and performance. There are no size restrictions, so long as the piece will fit through standard doorways and is ready to display. (3-dimensional pieces must be display-ready, either free-standing or wall-hanging)

*Please upload quality images (no more than 2MB in size, jpeg) labeled appropriately for identification purposes (ex: lastname_title.jpg) 

IF YOU ARE MISSING CRITERIA YOUR SUBMISSION MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED.

*Artists not from the SWFL area are responsible for any and all shipping costs for the delivery of accepted artwork and the return of unsold work.

*Pending acceptance, artwork must be ready to display. 2D work must be ready to hang with hanging wire or appropriate hardware, and the sculpture must be free-standing. Pedestals can be provided for small-scale 3D works. Any works not display-ready upon the drop-off date are subject to rejection!

*Artwork must have been produced within the past 12 months. Art previously exhibited at SBDACt shows will not be accepted.

**Most importantly, artwork must adhere to the theme “Her story” any artwork not related to the theme will not be accepted.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 17th

Notification of accepted artworks will be sent by February 21st
