Shock Rocked: Punk Subculture
The Punk Subculture From album covers to zines, the aesthetic of punk rock has always existed to shock and intrigue its viewers. Widely considered to have been born in New York City, punk music and the art scene have overlapped from as early as the 1970s. With artistic influences from the likes of John Holmstrom and Jimmy De Sana, artists have used various outlets and media to document the prime time of the punk rock music scene. With years of representation under its belt, punk rock aesthetic continues to influence and inspire the youth of today. With deep roots in the subject of rebellion and political injustice, the backbone of punk art runs deeper than it’s edgy aesthetic. Challenging the mainstream idea of what art should look like, punk art exists to push the boundaries of what a larger society expects from the high-end art scene.
