Song Star

at the Davis School of Music

Interested students must audition by sending a video via email to angelahicks@sbdac.com. High school level of playing is required, and the audition material is a song of the student’s choice.

What is Song Star?

Song Star at 6 – Fingers Studios is a hands-on learning opportunity open to Middle School and High School students interested in  guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals, and recording while simultaneously learning songwriting and audio recording applications all in one comprehensive program. Students will meet weekly, learn cover songs as well as write originals focusing on collaboration and musical expression for the goal of both performing and recording the songs that they have created together. Students will be  fortunate  to utilize our state-of-the-art Six Fingers Studios, and we are excited to offer this latest opportunity to aspiring Middle School and High School musicians. 

What functions does Song Star include?

This program will serve multiple functions towards the musical and emotional growth of its students including team building and collaboration, social skills building, confidence and self-esteem building, leadership cultivation, and composing with lyrics that send positive messages, offering both solo and team practice and performance skill development, collaborating in writing-recording-engineering-producing, yielding both self-pride and respect for others, experiencing different music genres (rock, pop, country), all of which foster self-expression, effective communication, and emotional growth.

When does Song Star happen?

The band will meet Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 each week for two 16- week semesters, Fall and Spring. Song Star tuition is $200 per semester, with some partial scholarships available. Class minimum is 5 and maximum is 10 band members.

Angela Hicks

Angela Hicks is a classically trained vocalist and instructor. In 2001 She began her vocal technique training in opera and Broadway and then switched to jazz, R&B, and pop. She performs at various venues in Southwest Florida and spent 14 years teaching children vocal and theater production when she’s not on stage. In the Song Star program, she contributes her engineering skills for students to take home a finished product of their final piece of the semester by utilizing the state of the art recording studio, Six Fingers Studios.
