Summer is a great time to take in the arts! With season out of the way, it’s a little easier to get to downtown Fort Myers for art openings. During July and August Art Walks, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center opens four fantastic summer art exhibitions. Learn more about these exhibitions that include works from acclaimed international and local artists.

July Art Exhibitions

Bob Halstead

This July, two great art shows opened during Art Walk, and will remain open until July 27th. In the downstairs Grand Atrium, witness “There’s Something in the Water,” a group art show featuring the works of international underwater photographer, Bob Halstead, and acclaimed local photographers Mila Bridger and Katy Danca Galli. These larger-than-life pieces all showcase the breathtaking spectacle that exists just below the water’s surface.

In the upstairs Capital Gallery, experience Bradford Hermann’s “A Head of the Past.” This intriguing 3D art show explores masks, both literally and figuratively. The exhibition is comprised of hand-crafted masks that represent the many faces people show to each other every day, and the role masks play in the human psyche. See the exhibit first hand to really feel the power of each piece!

August Art Exhibitions

from “Abstracted”

August is another great month for summer art exhibitions at SBDAC! Two incredible group art shows take over both galleries throughout the month. In the Grand Atrium, take in “Abstracted” a group art show featuring Karen Gozzo Nolan, Michael Pohlman, Jeffrey Scott Lewis, and Yvonne Krystman. Each artist materializes the abstract using shape, shadow, line, and color in this eclectic show. Every painting is meant to inspire curiosity and provoke deep emotional responses.

In addition, the group art show “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” will be featured in the Capital Gallery. This fun and funky art show features art works submitted that were originally featured on the artists’ social media accounts. Don’t worry, no selfies allowed! However, there are sure to be some exquisite works displayed that will hang in a gallery for the first time. The call for this show is open until July 24th. See both of these art shows come to life through August 28th!
