The village of Treorchy lies in the upper Rhondda Valley in South Wales. The area became known for the intensity of its coal mining industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The internationally celebrated Treorchy Male Choir was formed in the late 19th century and has enchanted audiences around the world for almost 140 years. From the Royal Command performances for Queen Victoria to their appearance in The White House more than a century later, the choir has entertained packed houses.
They are the most recorded male voice choir in history with more than 90 albums to their name and have performed with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Sir Tom Jones, Dame Julie Andrews, Burt Bacharach, Katherine Jenkins and Andrea Bocelli.
The Treorchy Male Choir has undertaken an enviable number of overseas tours, including two visits to Canada and a performance in Strasbourg Cathedral for its congregation of almost 6,000 people. Four successful tours to the USA followed with visits to Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, the Mid West, New York City and Washington DC. They were the first Welsh Choir to appear at the Sydney Opera House and have undertaken 3 further Australian tours. During their 2009 visit, they also enjoyed a triumphant sell-out concert tour of New Zealand.
In recent years, the Choir has made unforgettable visits to Monte Carlo at the express permission of His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco. The choir was honoured to represent Wales when they performed at the prestigious Centenary Commemoration of the Battle of Mametz Wood, the first battle of the Somme in July 2016.
From its founding in 1883, the Treorchy Male Choir has developed a unique and enviable reputation which we hope will be further enhanced during the tour to South West Florida in March 2024.
It is, in the words of Sir Anthony Hopkins, “the master choir of them all”.
