Artists are an incredible driver for our community, not only culturally, but economically, bringing aesthetics and beauty wherever they go. Many times they go unappreciated or their passions taken for granted, but what would our city be without the arts? This tree is a tribute to those incredible creative minds in our community and was designed by SBDAC’s curator and artist Cesar Aguilera and includes unique art from some of the artists that have exhibited their amazing art at the SBDAC in past seasons, some of them will exhibit in our new season.

Blue Collar Christmas

9′ Fort Myers Technical College Tree

There is one season that does not change in Florida. Whether it is winter, spring, summer, or fall, it is always Construction Season. Fort Myers Technical College offers over 20 programs of study (many of which are considered blue collar trades). You’ll find tools, gift cards, and a variety of items from the trades included with our tree. The students, faculty, and staff at FMTC enjoyed creating our Blue Collar Christmas Tree and our Administration has included a scholarship for the cost of tuition (up to $5,300) for the lucky raffle winner.

Celebrating Stars & Stripes Forever

American Revolution Tree

Be delighted and enlightened with this patriotic tree adorned with many dazzling stars to Celebrate Stars & Stripes Forever. The Great Southwest Florida Regent’s Council, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, has placed an eclectic collection of gifts under the tree for your family to enjoy during the holidays, and afterward. A handmade toy chest, donated by the Lawrence Kearny Chapter, is filled with games, toys, and activities for children of all ages. The Estero Island Chapter has a collapsible red wagon donated by the Hickory Bluff Chapter loaded with items for “Christmas Around the House” including a patriotic lantern with fused glass panels and a fused glass tray made by a local artist, items for holiday baking and cooking and decorating the home and an American flag to display outdoors. Barefoot Beach Chapter has a small red wagon carrying 10 patriotic children’s books, beanie baby animals, and additional baskets with items for a patriotic picnic or party and the USS Hannah Chapter has a Basket of Books for all ages. The ”Sip and Sparkle” basket from the Caloosahatchee Chapter is filled with wine and spirits to celebrate the holidays and beyond.
DAR members have enjoyed participating in this Festival of Trees as we make a buzz in our community and spread the word about this patriotic women’s service organization whose goals are Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism. Each member has proven their direct lineage to a patriot who supported the cause of the Revolutionary War. Do YOU have a patriot in YOUR family?

Happy Howlidays

7′ Pathways to Opportunity Tree

Join us in celebrating the Howlidays with this dog-inspired tree. The participants of Pathways to Opportunity love it when therapy dogs come to visit their program and couldn’t think of a better way to share their joy with others. Pathways to Opportunity is a Life Skills Development Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program offers college-style classes with an emphasis on real-world application of skills learned. Program activities range from cooking, fine arts, performing arts, foreign languages, and independent living skills. One of the fine arts classes was learning about distinct art mediums and creating ornaments to sell. Purchase an ornament to help buy supplies for their art classes.
