Are you an artist who delves into the mysterious, the macabre, and the surreal? Do your works explore the shadows, the unknown, and the eerie facets of the human experience? If so, we invite you to submit your artwork to “Dark Art 2024,” the annual open call exhibition at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.
About the Exhibition
“Dark Art 2024” is a celebration of the enigmatic and the obscure, showcasing works that challenge, provoke, and fascinate. This exhibition aims to explore the themes of darkness in all its forms—whether psychological, fantastical, or existential. We welcome artists who push boundaries and delve into the depths of their imaginations to reveal the hidden and the haunting.
Submission Guidelines
Please read them carefully before submitting artwork!
- The deadline is Friday, September 20th, 2024 so you have plenty of time to show your dark side!
- To submit artwork for consideration, please follow these guidelines:
- Artists may submit up to Three pieces for consideration.
- All media is accepted, including sculpture but no AI art will be accepted. Art is limited to 60” on its biggest side. (3-dimensional pieces must be display-ready, either free-standing or wall-hanging)
- Please upload quality images (no more than 2MB in size, jpeg) labeled appropriately for identification purposes (ex: lastname_title.jpg)
- IF YOU ARE MISSING CRITERIA YOUR SUBMISSION MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED.
- Artists not from the SWFL area are responsible for any and all shipping costs for the delivery of accepted artwork and the return of unsold work.
- Pending acceptance, artwork must be ready to display. 2D work must be ready to hang with hanging wire or appropriate hardware, and the sculpture must be free-standing. Pedestals can be provided for small-scale 3D works. Any works not display-ready upon the drop-off date are subject to rejection!
- Artwork must have been produced within the past 24 months. Art previously exhibited at Dark Art shows will not be accepted.
- Art Created with AI, even if partially, will not be accepted.
- **Most importantly, artwork must adhere to the theme of ‘dark art’. This includes but isn’t limited to monsters, magic, witches, zombies, creatures, nightmares, surreal hell-scapes, skulls, spirits, ghouls, demons, devils, ghosts, etc. The purpose of this show is to encourage artists to explore these themes and the darker spectrum of thought and imagination.
