Author Workshop: Chantel Acevedo

Participants in this workshop will generate a plan for a novel or short story, using back cover copy as a model for inspiration and structure. Writers will come away with a simple book outline that serves as a useful tool in drafting their fiction.

The idea of a walking island is a paradox itself, just a starting point, to speak visually of the experience of growing up in motion, it is a personal evocation of the origin and the path, of a perennial process of self-knowledge and reconciliation.

The Barefoot Movement is anything but your standard bluegrass band. They stretch from a strong foundation of traditional Appalachian music, borrowing the best from other roots based genres to shape their hallmark sound. In a typical show, you’ll hear elements of bluegrass, blues, folk, rock, country and pop through their narrative lyrics, tight three-part harmonies, hot instrumental riffs, lilting blues scales and catchy vocal hooks.

If you consider the definition of "Tribute" as being an acknowledgment of respect and admiration, you can understand what has driven Turnstiles' band leader Tony Monaco to form "Turnstiles". As a young man, Tony became an inspired, lifelong fan of the Piano Man and he used that inspiration to grow as a pianist, vocalist, and songwriter.

This decontextualized unfunctional “furniture” allows the drawer to draw attention with its glossy surface and chromatism in the same way that nature places vibrant colors on every flower to attract insects that pollinate or to adorn venomous creatures as a sign that danger is present.

Functional Art

Functional art is generally applied art - art created for use, not necessarily everyday use, but designed to serve a purpose and with an aesthetic in mind. It’s art that serves a or function, but is designed artistically for the purpose of beauty. They meet a need for use, and are works of art as well.

The “Me, You and Them” Exhibition originated from the 2020 lockdown period, where Cath was isolated alone and took the opportunity to explore herself, producing her stark black and white self-portraits displaying loneliness, isolation and the ‘shadow side’ of herself, but also showing the open blank space for things which lie beyond all that.

The purpose of this encounter focuses on variants of artistic expressions, the result of the work of various artists, with the intention of reacting and promoting the talent, the diversity of trends and the different ways of assuming art, expressed with an aesthetic repertoire that moves us.

The Artist Trading Card project builds on different traditions. Miniature art has been in existence for centuries tracing its heritage back to the illustrated manuscripts of scribes in the Far East and Europe prior to the 15th century.
