Overview
THE MUSEUM OF TOMORROW IS EXPANDING ITS COLLECTION.
The year is 2127.
A century of innovation has transformed humanity in ways once thought impossible. Technology and biology have merged. Nature has adapted. Culture has evolved. Fashion has become more than clothing. It has become history, identity, and art.
Now, for one evening, the Museum of Tomorrow opens its archives to the present.
Edge of Couture 2027 invites artists, fashion designers, costume creators, sculptors, fiber artists, and visionaries to contribute newly discovered artifacts to the Future Relics Collection, an immersive exhibition of wearable art that imagines the countless futures humanity may one day inherit.
What will future generations wear?
What stories will their garments tell?
What relic will you leave behind?
ABOUT EDGE OF COUTURE
Edge of Couture is an annual wearable art exhibition celebrating the intersection of fine art, fashion, and imagination.
More than a runway show, Edge of Couture transforms the human body into a living gallery wall, where every garment becomes an exhibition piece and every model becomes a moving work of art.
Each year presents a new creative challenge, inviting participants to push beyond traditional fashion and reimagine wearable art as immersive storytelling.
THE 2027 EXHIBITION
Future Relics
Bringing Tomorrow Into the Gallery
A vision of fashion beyond today.
Edge of Couture 2027 explores what humanity may wear when technology, nature, art, and identity evolve.
This immersive exhibition transforms the human body into a living gallery wall, where designers become architects of possible futures and couture becomes a glimpse into civilizations yet to come.
The future is not one destination.
There are thousands of possibilities.
Some futures embrace technology.
Others return to nature.
Some imagine life among the stars.
Others redefine what it means to be human.
There is no single interpretation.
Only your imagination.
CONTRIBUTE AN ARTIFACT TO THE FUTURE COLLECTION.
Imagine your creation has traveled back through time.
It is displayed in a museum not as clothing, but as evidence of a civilization that has yet to exist.
Ask yourself:
- What will humanity value in the future?
- How will technology transform beauty?
- Can garments be grown instead of sewn?
- What traditions will survive?
- What new cultures will emerge?
- How will people express identity, memory, and hope?
Your artifact may be elegant or experimental.
Organic or mechanical.
Minimalist or theatrical.
Wearable sculpture or avant-garde couture.
The only requirement is that it belongs to a future waiting to be imagined.
CREATIVE INSPIRATION
Your work may explore themes such as:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Human Evolution
- Digital Identity
- Sustainability
- Climate Adaptation
- Biomaterials
- Nature Reimagined
- Space Exploration
- Future Civilizations
- Alien Worlds
- Future Rituals
- Memory & Legacy
- Architecture
- Mythology
- Scientific Discovery
Or a future entirely your own.
DESIGN EXPECTATIONS
Designers are encouraged to create original wearable works of art that challenge convention and celebrate creativity.
Works may incorporate traditional textiles, recycled materials, sculptural elements, innovative fabrication techniques, lighting, technology, or unexpected materials.
Movement should be considered an extension of the artwork itself.
Every piece should tell a story.
FEATURED COLLECTION
GENERATIONS
A Wearable Dialogue Between Past and Future
Some stories are not told by a single garment.
They are carried from one generation to the next.
As part of Edge of Couture 2027: Future Relics, designers are invited to participate in a special featured collection celebrating the bonds that shape our past, present, and future.
Designers may choose to create a companion ensemble for an adult and a child, exploring how fashion, identity, tradition, and imagination evolve across generations.
The two looks may complement one another, stand in striking contrast, or tell a shared story through wearable art. They are not required to match. Instead, think of the pair as two chapters of the same narrative, connected through memory, legacy, or possibility.
Companion ensembles may feature:
- Mother & Son
- Mother & Daughter
- Father & Son
- Father & Daughter
- Grandparent & Grandchild
- Guardian & Child
- Any meaningful intergenerational relationship
To make participation as accessible as possible, Edge of Couture will provide the adult and child models for the Generations collection. Designers who already have a parent, guardian, grandparent, or child they wish to feature are welcome to include them, pending approval and participation guidelines.
Whether your designs explore heritage, transformation, resilience, hope, or the future of humanity, Generations celebrates the enduring connections that shape who we are and who we may become.
