Overview
1. Theme & Concept
“Sketchy” invites artists to capture the spontaneity of live human and pet models through expressive, quick-draw sketches. Throughout the year, SBDAC will host monthly live sessions—culminating in a themed exhibition where patrons view and purchase curated works. The opening reception doubles as an adoption event: sketches of rescue animals will accompany live meet-and-greets, and patrons can adopt directly from our partners.
5. Submission Guidelines
Artists may submit up to eight (8) sketches, art doesn’t necessarily have to be created during our live sessions. Accepted formats:
- High-resolution photo or scan (JPEG/PNG, 300 dpi)
- Maximum file size: 2MB per image
Submission materials (via our website form at bottom of this page):
- Upload your sketches (8 max)
- Brief Artist Statement (150–300 words)
- Contact Info (name, email, phone, social handles)
No entry fee. Submissions accepted on a rolling basis until April 20th, 2026.
5. Selection & Exhibition
- Notifications within a week of selection.
- Curated selection displayed during the month of May 2026.
- Artists set prices; recommended range $25–$200.
- SBDAC retains 40% commission; artists receive 60%.
6. Adoption Event & Opening Night
- May 1, 2026 | 6–10 PM: Patrons can adopt featured rescue models.
- Adoption booth staffed by Gulf Coast Humane Society and Arc Animal Refuge Center.
- All adoption fees go directly to the shelters.
- Live sketch station continues throughout the reception—winners of a raffle receive a free on-site portrait.
