Overview
This is an introduction to a true breakthrough art exhibit that comes into view at a time when humanity needs it most! The reality is that our world is being assailed by a multitude of challenges that are on course to cause the end of human history. Diaphanous Vision is artist Beth Carter Bell’s response to that crisis. It presents a lucid and revealing collection of works, which examines the existential nature of life-itself, a first in the art world. The show looks at what’s possible beyond our adolescence as a species and embraces our new role in the maintenance of life on Earth.
While it has become increasingly clear that humanity cannot afford the effect of what we have become as a species, it has also become clear that our survival really depends on us becoming something that we have never been before. That something includes the reconciliation of humanity with itself and with the Natural world, thereby unifying humanity as a single species and terminating our presumed separateness from the rest of life in this world. Sadly, that objective is marred by a number of calamities including the threat of more war amongst us, the relentless advance of AI to replace humanity from the workplace and by the Earth’s 6 th mass extinction event currently underway. Until now, we humanity have yet to find a viable seminal idea that could lead us to a planned solution, to the method to accomplish it, or to the implementation process needed for a cultural upgrade that can steer us away from self-destruction.
Diaphanous Vision (translated as translucent vision) is a preview of a cultural upgrade that can change the direction and the future of humanity. The exhibit as a whole, presents Life-itself as the seminal idea at the heart of the reconciliation of humanity with itself and humanity with the natural world. The works on exhibit, derive their transcendence from a documented instance of reconciliation between art and life, where a pair of Osprey Eagles nested atop of a sculpture featuring a Florida manatee by artist Tiité Baquero titled “Friendship Sentry” which bared a legend that read “The recovery of Earth is a task accomplished only by man and nature in mutual friendship – Let’s do it”. The sculpture waited 24 years for Nature to respond and the work has since, been the birthplace for several broods of Osprey eagles. That remarkable example of reconciliation, gave origin and credence to the Data-A art, or art in which LIFE is the priority of its aesthetic ideal. Moreover, it provided the springboard that made possible the formalization of a philosophical Data-A Aesthetic, which in turn, provides the cultural principles and adaptations that can make possible a cultural evolution that can deliver the promise of humanity becoming something it has never been before. That is, a creature whose preoccupation for life makes us a true steward of life on Earth as opposed to being the creature behind the extinction of all life. Or conversely, a creature that managed to embrace cultural evolution, just in time to avoid its own extinction.
The exhibit constitutes a window into a higher level of cognitive capacity where the solutions to all or most of the problems created by our fundamental human cultural model are remedied by the alliance created by our reconciliation with the Natural world and the culture afforded by the effect of the Data-A Aesthetic which, becomes the architect of this new vision for humanity and for the future of all Life on Earth.
Diaphanous Vision introduces humanity to a new art about LIFE and how art can play a critical new role in the existential continuity of humanity, by placing all LIFE at the center of its main objective and rational in order to enable humanity to preserve itself along with the whole of LIFE on Earth.
