The Famous Author Lecture Series brings national and international bestselling authors to Fort Myers, enriching the community with high-quality literary experiences. These 2-hour events invite guests to meet and listen to best-selling authors sharing their experiences and offering insights into their works all while enjoying a delicious lunch catered by Frisco’s, followed by a personal book signing opportunity.

About the Author:

Caren S. Neile, Ph.D., MFA, has taught storytelling studies for the School of Communication & Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University since 2000. A performance storyteller, she has worked in six countries, including as a Fulbright Senior Specialist in Austria and Israel, and as a visiting professor in Poland. 

Dr. Neile co-produces and co-hosts The Public Storyteller segment on South Florida public radio WLRN, as well as numerous local storytelling events. She is a former Peace Corps volunteer, former chair of the National Storytelling Network, a member of the Florida Humanities Speakers Bureau, and a former Board member of the Florida Storytelling Association, as well as a faculty affiliate of the Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative at Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Neile has also produced features for WPIX-TV Independent Network News in New York and edited magazines for Globe Communications in Boca Raton, Florida.

A co-founder of the academic journal Storytelling, Self, Society (Wayne State University), Dr. Neile has published widely, including a chapter in the Oxford Handbook of American Folklore and Folk Life Studies, the book Florida Lore (History Press) and a bi-weekly storytelling column for the Florida Jewish Journal. Just out is her newest book from the History Press, Only in Florida (History Press). Coming in 2021: Peninnah’s World: A Jewish Life in Stories.

Dr. Neile holds degrees from Columbia University (BA), the Jewish Theological Seminary (BA), Florida International University (MFA) and Florida Atlantic University (PhD).
