What’s Your Vision In 2020?

Many of us are excited to be living in these interesting times all the while envisioning what we want to create in 2020. Now that we are fully engaged with the first month of our new decennium, are you seeing what you said you wanted to see?

All of my childhood, I believed that 20/20 was the coveted, perfect vision score. The optical pinnacle of excellence, if you will. However, as an avid reader, I have learned that is not at all true. When a person is deemed to have 20/20 visual acuity, it simply means that they can read a chart at 20 feet away as well as anyone should be able to read at a 20 foot distance. In essence, the term translates to just ‘average’. No, I am not doing anything on an ‘average’ level in 2020, that is not something I aspire to become.

Our American language is incredibly fluid, in that meanings are assigned and then reassigned to words all the time. I’m feeling that due to its wide misuse, this particular misnomer is unlikely to go away any time soon. With this in mind, I simply choose to embrace this colloquial terminology and greet the year 2020 with a vision of perfection.

I find the arts as the most open path in a quest for expansion in my life. It is quite an honor to be welcomed into that most intimate place inside the artist. As a witness of this gift, my own inner being is granted permission to create my own perfect vision. Inspiration fills my soul when I am allowed inside of someone’s powerful expression of human emotion. Whether he or she causes paint to dance on canvas, or makes music notes taste like heaven, or bends a bit of clay into the exact shape of that tiny hole in my heart, their creations, in many ways assist me in giving life to the ink that dyes on my paper.

What is my vision for 2020? I see myself leaning softly into my own version of perfection. I want more this year, I want more clarity. I want more colors. I want more music. I want more uniqueness. I want to “get closer to the arts” at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center!

It’s a good bet that as a reader of this blog, you are the kind of person that demands more out of 2020 as well. Won’t you join me?
